Serving Stale Data to Improve DNS Resiliency (RFC 8767, 2020)

RFC 8767 describes using expired DNS data when authoritative refresh fails. Section 4 requires a positive TTL on stale records in responses, recommending 30 seconds; that is distinct from the stale-retention timer in section 5. Section 7 excludes originally zero-TTL records from fallback, and section 10 flags signature expiry. This is a mechanism specification, not a measured availability gain.
